Something really cool happened today. I got my first set of business cards ever! Now, I know what you're thinking, "Wow, Katie, really? That's what you find cool? Ok, you little weirdo...." but hear me out!!
To me, these aren't just business cards. These aren't just some boring things with my boring name and boring job title that I am meant to give out when I think someone might need our services. To me, these are a badge of honor. I get to hand out these attractive little nuggets to likeminded businesses - those who want to progress women further, who want to make a difference in how we perceive ourselves and how others see us too. I want to be able to hand a beautiful woman one of my business cards so she knows I'm legit when I tell her we need to photograph her damn near naked. That's the DREAM!!!!
Remember in my session experience blog how I said I wanted to hand out Polaroids in the street? Babes, I'm there! I get to do that now!! I chose a photo, not of me, but of one of the most beautiful images I've ever seen, and I get to hand it out like candy on Halloween.
When I tell people, family included, that I went from being an accounting assistant to creating content for a boudoir photographer I get a lot of reactions that are fairly disappointing; not because they didn't show enthusiasm, but because it shows how far we still have to go. I've gotten, "Don't you worry about what people will think?", "Well that's just a phase, you will be going back to the real world soon enough.", "Um.... why would you do that?", "I don't tell people you work in boudoir, I just tell them you work for a photographer who happens to do that too because I get a lot of raised eyebrows otherwise."
And let me tell you, I just don't care! I don't care what people will think, I don't care if people think I'm living in a dream world (but let me tell you, I am and it's amazeboobies), I don't care that people give you raised eyebrows when you tell them where I work and what I do. I just really don't care. If you aren't on board with trying to make women look and feel like the goddesses they are, then you're not my people. If you're ashamed to tell people that I am working at my dream job, building others up, making women feel like freaking warriors, then I honestly don't even know what to say to you.
I care that I get to be here every day! I care that I get to play a small part in hopefully an amazing day for you, I care that I get to continue to flood our social media accounts with your gorgeousness! I care that I am passionate about my job and about you. Tell me how that's a bad thing, I dare you.
So here, take this business card and you can call or email me when you figure it out.
