"Gorgeous for the first time since my wedding day 6 months prior. No human should ever go that long without feeling stunning." | Duluth Maternity Boudoir Interview with Ashlee

How old were you at your session?Freshly 30.

What made you decide to book a session?
So many things cultivated into the perfect storm for this session to be possible. I had been promising myself for years to try something like this, I was turning 30 and I also wanted to capture maternity pictures that were elegant and out of the box. My husband and I had zero interest in doing a traditional maternity shoot and I wanted to remember how I looked at 7 months pregnant. And then the Lady Gaga promotion was going on, that sealed the deal!

What was originally holding you back from booking a session?
My weight, it has ALWAYS been a struggle for me. I kept telling myself if i can lose X amount of pounds then I deserve a boudoir shoot. My insecurities held me back and I was tired of it. Every woman deserves to look and most importantly feel gorgeous and that is exactly what Jes and Emily did for me. The cost was also a huge factor, babies are expensive and I felt guilty even considering spending money on myself. Thank goodness for payment plans!

What were you most nervous about for your session?
Meeting the girls I was about to be half naked in front of and the outfits! It was really difficult for me to shop for outfits not knowing how my body would look at 7 months pregnant and I had no idea what their closet looked like. I was also worried that the photos would capture all of my flaws and I would be disappointed with the photos.

How did you feel about yourself before your session?
Frumpy. Like I wish I could have lost that extra chin on the 2.5 hour drive up from the cities to the shoot. But I reminded myself that not only was I doing the shoot for my current self but for my future self, I wanted to remember what my body looked like during this significant time in my life.

Describe your experience.
I arrived at the studio and Emily showed me the closet and let me just kind of do my thing. After I picked out my outfits she got started on my hair and makeup. I had no idea what look I wanted to go for and she helped me decide. Jes showed up, looked at all my outfits, started setting the scene and we dove right in. She was AMAZING at giving instruction and demonstrated all of the poses for me, it was great and laid back.

How did you feel about yourself after your session?
Gorgeous for the first time since my wedding day 6 months prior. No human should ever go that long without feeling stunning.
And nervous to see my photos! I had to wait 3 weeks due to my own schedule and I thought the anticipation was going to kill me!

Were you nervous before your viewing session?Yes very!

How did you feel about yourself after seeing your photos?
I felt like I was looking at myself through my husband's eyes. He is always telling me how beautiful I am and I never quite believe him. I felt confident, empowered and I was so excited to show him my photos.... he has only seen 3 and won't see the rest until our anniversary!
I was also relieved, Jes and Emily seem to have a gift for making women look and FEEL gorgeous. I was convinced their powers wouldn't work on me but they most definitely did.

What were your favorite products? The rose gold album and the wall print!

What would you tell anyone interested, but maybe hesitant, in book a session of their own?
DO IT. You are never going to be younger than you are right now and all of your excuses won't mean anything in 20 years. At the very least look at it as a day of pampering. Oh and drink ALL of the water, leg cramps are no joke and you will hold those poses until Jes knows she got the shot!

How was working with Jes and Emily?
I had been following Mad Chicken on Facebook for a while as well as a few other Boudoir photographers and they just felt like the best fit. Their sense of humor, their style, the softness and elegance of the photos.... everything just felt right to me. And trust me several people tried to talk me out of driving 5 hours roundtrip to have my photo taken but if I was going to do a shoot I knew it had to be with them. They were outgoing, kind and encouraging which are all things I look for when I decide to get half naked in front of two total strangers:)
