Happy New Year, Babes!! 2019 is here! A new year, a time for reflection, and a time for resolutions.
Res-o-lu-tion: A firm decision to do or not to do something.
“Her New Year’s Resolution was to be the best version of herself.”
Resolutions that come with body alterations kind of drive me insane. Body culture plays a massive part in people’s resolutions and I wanted mine to be more about my mental health than about my body. I made one last year (2018). The first time in my life I have ever made a resolution and it was to stop saying no to myself, to be the best version of me. It started off with a bang when I booked my session last minute ( I mean, less than two weeks in advance, last minute). That lead me to an impromptu trip to Chicago to see one of my favorite artists, to the UK to visit my best friend, to working at Mad Chicken Studio and so much more. 2018 was an amazing year for me and it all started by taking the time to invest in myself. But by now, you all know that. So why am I bringing it up again? Because I think it’s important to bring it into 2019, and 2020, 2099, and 3018.
Investing in yourself, or self care, or soul care, or whatever you want to call it is so so important. We are constantly lending ourselves to others, filling their cups, making sure they have everything they need. Why not do that for yourself? You can’t fill a cup from an empty vase. Your body and your mind will thank you.
So here is my resolution for 2019. To continue my self care journey. 2018 was THE BEST year of my life and I wholeheartedly believe it’s because I started treating myself kindly. I spoke to myself the way I speak to those I love, I stopped wishing my body were different, I spoke to complete strangers as friends, I was able to give more of myself because I was putting more into myself. I now see myself in a completely different light and I love who I am becoming. Some people may see that as being selfish or conceited or some other negative word. And you know what? Fuck em. It’s ok to love who you are!! You are an incredible unicorn and you deserve to love you and be happy and mentally healthy for yourself. You’ll thank yourself later ;)
